Ireland is called "Emerald Isle" because it is its poetic name due to its green countryside. The island of Ireland is occupied by two political entities which are the Republic of Ireland with its capital Dublin and Northern Ireland with its capital Belfast. Republic of Ireland covers five-sixths of the entire Isle and Northern Ireland part of Great-Britain covers the remaining sixth.
The population of the island is over 6 million, with 4.5 million in the Republic of Ireland and an estimated 1.75 million in Northern Ireland.
The climate is defined as temperate oceanic and the country is generally warm during summer and mild during winter. It is much warmer than other areas on its latitude, due to the fact it lies in the Atlantic Ocean, and as a result is warmed by the Gulf Stream all year.
Dublin on the East coast is the most touristed region with several attractions. The West and South West like the County Kerry and Galway Region are also popular tourist destinations with its beautiful scenery.
There are many international airports in Ireland such as Dublin (East coast), Belfast (North East coast), Cork (South), Shannon and Galway (West) and Sligo further North on the West coast. Many popular low-cost airlines such as Ryanair, Aer Lingus BMI Baby, Easyjet and City Jet go to those airports.
Until 1980s, Ireland was troubled by emigration, approximatly half a million people left the country in the 1950's. Those problems disappeared after 1990s, wich saw the beginning of a surprising economic growth, known as the "Celtic Tiger" described as a period of rapid economic growth due to low tax, industrial policies and European Union aids.
To conclude, a holiday in Ireland will allow you to experience a long history with a warm hospitality, beautiful landscape, lots of different activities, good food and drinks together with some great Irish folk music.
